Our staff was flipping through some 200 year old magazines and found this political cartoon. These things teach you about history:

LEARN VIA POLITICAL CARTOONS (First Installment)

Symbolism was literally used in political cartoons which allowed them to efficiently say so much in one hilarious panel. Here, President Jefferson is represented by a man who looks like him but has a mustache. The meaning of the other symbols are written into the cartoon itself. (The reference to a "Ms. Hemmings" by Napoleon is actually a reference to the American population as a whole which was, back in them days, commonly nicknamed "Ms. Hemmings" or "a-holes.")
